Felicity stood in the middle of her rather large room and stared into the full-length mirror. As she brushed her black, straight hair, she studied her image. Felicity thought that she was rather pretty, full hips, flat stomach, hair that reached the small of her back and violet eyes. No one understood those eyes. Neither of her parents had eyes even close.
Just then her personal maid, Elena, came into the room with Felicity’s breakfast. "Ah, that looks like some fine bacon," Felicity announced, "and those eggs!"
Elena smiled and set the silver tray on Felicity’s cherry wood desk and pulled out the velvet seated chair in front of it. "It looks almost good enough to eat." Felicity joked, quoting an old saying she’d learned as a child.
"You’ll need a nice large breakfast if you are ever to survive you birthday party. Seventeen, I can’t wait until I’M seventeen!" Elena, two years younger than Felicity, always admired the older girl.
"Ah," sighed Felicity, "I am dreading that too-polite party already." Though her parents meant well, they didn’t seem to grasp the concept that Felicity would never come to like her family’s friends. They thought of nothing but themselves. Felicity’s real friends were the lower class girls, such as Elena.
